Monster Portrait circa 1850.
Not many people know this, but Henry David Thoreau had a secret admirer when he was staying at Walden pond. A monster living in the surrounding woods took an interest in the author/philosopher, but refused to introduce himself because he wanted to “Keep the Thoreau in his mind alive.”
This is the only surviving photograph of the monster.
