Paul Newman was my favorite actor. Every character he played rang true. At my acting conservatory, we spoke about “Actor Talk” -vs- “People Talk”. In my opinion, every word that came out of Paul Newman’s mouth in a movie was “People Talk”. Nothing forced, nothing fake, just sincerity and a view to another person’s inner life. On my list of things to do before I die, one thing will never be crossed off. I always wanted to see him in real life, not meet, just see. I guess I’ll just have to watch his movies and interviews with him and hope that he was just as charismatic and kind in person.
“He was smiling… That’s right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn’t know it ‘fore, they could tell right then that they weren’t a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he’s a natural-born world-shaker.”
